Arkells is holding a beer festival in Swindon!

The Brewery is celebrating 160 years in business in September 2003, and will be holding a special beer festival to celebrate at the Brewery in Kingsdown, Swindon on Friday and Saturday 12th and 13th September in aid of The Prospect Foundation charity in Swindon.

Said Beer Festival was yesterday - and what an event it was!

My Dad drove Greenaway & I over to the Arkells Brewery in Kingsdown at 11.00 yesterday morning.

We arrived, paid £1 for entry (which included a free comemerative glass) and then tagged along with a brewery tour. Lots of nasty smells, but the end product is delicious!

We were given a programme, listing all 32 beers available. All beers were from the remaining independant family brewers from around the country. We bought a few beer tokens (£1 for a half) and decided what to go for.

First off I tried Timothy Taylor Landlord - I had heard great things about this beer, but when I treid it in the Steam it tasted of bleach, so I wanted another go.
It was excellent, so the Steam must have had something wrong with their batch.
We also tried beers from the West Midlands, Dorset and Gloucestershire.

Excellent beer, a hilarious crowd (loads of fat old men with beards, some of whom had dragged treir wives along to give them a lift home!), some good beer mats:

GERMAN BEER IS GREAT
(beware of propaganda)

was my personal favourite, for Bombardier.
Unfortunately we had to leave early as Matt was going to the football. Had we had all day to play with, I expect a 32 half-pint challenge would have been in order!!!
