I normally take my dad out to the pub a few days before christmas to make up in my own little way for the amount of drinks hes paid for over the year (stolen cans from fridge, borrowed cash...) I just wondered if there was any suggestions for what i should talk about to avoid the usual
"Hows uni?"
"ok"
"right"
*drinks beer to avoid silence*
Oh yeah and bare in mind that it must be a universal father-son topic

I like to tell my Dad about all my mad nights out. He likes hearing about what Elliott gets up to. And Donald.
Talk about weapons of mass destruction and make a hillarious joke of looking under a beer mat for them...

Umm, not an expert on what fathers and sons talk about I'm afraid, for obvious reasons.
I talk to my Dad about just about anything, to be honest, figuring that he's responsible for half my genetic material, therefore he can probably work out what I'm on about.
Ask him embarassing questions about elastic bands... or similar such material.
That'll learn him for expecting a relationship with you.

Instead of just saying 'ok' why don't you tell him whats been going on at Uni?!
You must have been doing something to tell him about!
Nothing he would approve of!
Whatever i say he just says something about not paying to have me doing that....

Well talk to him about your course or something, ask what he's been up too, how's other people in the family, etc etc
Or just talk about elastic bands..............
