Matt

Bah, my dad's an accountant. It's a time of bad jokes and interesting fish.

Jimmy

Ahahah HRM is for girls. Thats what I do. In fact Im doing it right now.

I'm hardly a stereotypical accountant though - I'm the only in my department that wears pink jumpers! He he!

Well I don't mind it and it's a good career, so I'm gonna go for it! Hard work but the rewards are good!

Jimmy

03-03-2004 17:25:08

I said HRM you spag. I was talking about Mike the girl

Mike

03-03-2004 17:59:51

Anything that pays so much just to hire, fire and tell others to do your work gets my vote
Ill even wear the pink jumper

Short term: finish 2nd year of degree + travelling in Summer

Finish 1st degree
Go to Japan/bum around for a year, maybe do some travelling
Do second degree (Children's Literature)/get some kind of job.

All pretty flexible.

If you want to boss people around, Mike, why don't you be a management consultant? (Or is that what you're doing only getting a degree in it first...?). They certianly seem keen to get people interested: if I get one more letter from PriceWaterhouseCoopers/Deloitte/Accenture/similar, or one more flier about bloody investment banking (note: I do an English degree, an English dergee, with words, if I WANTED to spend my life working with numbers, I'd have done a MATHS degree...) pain will be inflicted. Though probably just to me.

Mike

09-03-2004 11:08:19

i thought you had to be a manager for x number of years before you can tell other people how its done?

Alex B

10-03-2004 22:41:29

Not going on the info they keep puttinging in my pigeon hole, sadly. Seems a twisted world where graduates who you wouldn't trust with a bicycle can wander into firms and tell people with 30 years experience where to stick it, but-such is life.

Mike

10-03-2004 23:23:43

Im thinking i should be the management consultant to make sure England win the next world cup

Hoping to finish degree, travel aroung europe then oz hopefully, then find office job in management/accountancy/something in the construction industry/whatever pays well.

Jimmy

12-03-2004 12:54:01

why are you obsessed with the construction industry matt?

Mike

12-03-2004 13:05:21

Its where all the money is.
My housemate just got offered a job with 22k a year for the next two years, going to 30-35 after hes fully trained, choice of company car and cash for a house in birmingham

Matt

12-03-2004 13:58:54

I say goat chasing in albania is pretty hot right now...

mattboyslim

12-03-2004 16:30:16

I know and understand building, but its only an option, depends where jobs/money are

Alex B

12-03-2004 18:53:41

What's all Sam's fault?

Mike

13-03-2004 09:45:29

What ISNT sam's fault?

Alex B

14-03-2004 14:57:18

Well, indeed.

But what about all the things PRE-SAM...?

Mr_Lenehan

23-04-2004 14:38:16

Short - Finish wapdevil.com and get a HND for it.

Medium - Go Oxford Brookes and get a Software Engineering BSc, with a year out in industry just to make sure that I'm 24 when I finish education.
