The DVLA report that 33% of road accidents are caused by exessive speed. However, to quote Top Gear, an independant police reports states that only 7% are casued by exessive speed. And these test were performed by professionals as oppose to bycycle riding hippies.
The 20 most dangerous stretches of road amounting to 170 miles of road in the UK have only 4 speed cameras in total along their length.
The police raised in the region of £70 million last year from speeding fines, and these fines are being used to fit more speed cameras to more roads.
I don't know about anyone else, but if only 7% of accidents are caused by exessive speed, shouldn't the police be catching real criminals as oppose to people in a rush to get to work?
